In-Game Rules

Foals
Foals cannot be separated from their dams (ie. sold) until they are weaned at 6 months.

Racehorses
Horses can race once per month, and more than that only if they are participating in all of or part of a race series, such as the Triple Crown (where the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes are both in May).

Retired Horses
Horses 2 years old and older can be retired. Horses 10 years old and older must be retired.
Retired horses can't be raced. Horses can't be bred or act as pony until they are retired.
Horses can be brought out of retirement after a ten month reconditioning period.

Breeding
Retired stallions and mares 4 years old and older are the only horses who can be bred.
Breeding season is February through July.
Inbreeding depression is incorporated in the game. Inbreeding is allowed and even encouraged in some cases, however not all matches will turn out right.
Stallions can cover a max of 15 mares per month.

Stud Status
A stallion is categorized as private (available to his owner's mares only), public with consent (available to others with approval from his owner), and public without consent (available to others without limit).
Changes to his status are done officially (ie. through Stud Book Updates). However, setting stud fees is totally up to you, to list them in stable forum or on the classified ads board, and change whenever you want.

Geldings
Stallions and colts 1 year old and older can be gelded.
Geldings have three advantages over stallions.
1. They cost less in upkeep.
2. Geldings can become lead ponies.
3. They have an advantage in focus when racing.
A horse should have a one month recovery period following the month he is gelded before racing or working as a lead pony.

Lead Ponies
A lead pony is a retired gelding or mare, 3 years old or older, who has been assigned a (single) racehorse to accompany.
A ponied racehorse receives a boost to focus and heart during a race.
Mares may only pony other mares. Pregnant or nursing mares cannot work as lead ponies.

Banking
Players are given a thread in their stable forum to keep track of their finances in. Players should note each transaction and include to, from, amount, and memo.

Upkeep
Upkeep is per month and is calculated automatically and displayed at the bottom of a player's stable page.
